M.Sc. in Education Management Certificate - NIE Sri Lanka
Academic Milestone Achievement
Description of the Artifact
The professional artifact selected for this portfolio is my Master of Science in Education Management Degree Certificate awarded by the National Institute of Education (NIE), Sri Lanka. This certificate represents the successful completion of my postgraduate studies, which I commenced in 2019 and completed in 2020 while serving as an Assistant Principal at Nalanda College. It reflects my commitment to continuous professional development, leadership enhancement, and evidence-based educational practice.
Context and Challenges
My postgraduate studies were undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period marked by movement restrictions and limited access to academic resources. Balancing administrative duties as an Assistant Principal with family responsibilities and academic expectations required immense resilience. Despite restrictions, I travelled whenever possible to meet school principals and teachers for data collection, following strict health guidelines. This experience strengthened my adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Research Focus: The Technology Stream
My research project focused on the Advanced Level Technology Stream (Engineering Technology and Bio Systems Technology). This stream was designed for students who prefer practical learning over traditional Physical or Biological Sciences. My research examined how this practical curriculum contributes to students’ life skills, such as critical thinking and technical competence.
Notable Achievement
Out of approximately fifty students in the programme, only three completed their research on time. I was proud to be among those three, despite the challenges of the pandemic and limited existing literature in this field.
Professional Growth and Impact
This degree marked a turning point, strengthening my academic confidence and analytical thinking. It has enabled me to implement effective academic interventions and supported my promotion to senior leadership positions. The programme deepened my understanding of reflective practice, strategic planning, and ethical leadership, which now guide my work as a Grade 1 Principal.
